What is wrong with using IE for FTP? | | While Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer may have FTP abilities built in, they are NOT proper FTP clients and should not be used in this way.
The reason is that by repeatedly attempting anonymous logins even if they already have your valid user name and password, both Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer behave in a way which mimics brute force hack attempts. Being identical in nature to real hack attempts, these will eventually end up caught by our security monitors and blocked by our firewall: making you (your IP address) unable to reach your server at all.
As Microsoft has yet to fix this problem nor offer any way to change this behavior, we suggest you do NOT use Internet Explorer as a FTP client. If you do, you will undoubtedly find yourself blocked by our firewall and unable to access our servers. While a simple call or email to SRO support can remedy this temporarily, be advised that we will not make any provisions which would compromise our server security. In other words: if you continue using IE for FTP, you will end up blocked again. |
